Dos and Donts of making website

Splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like “welcome” or “click here to enter”. Although you might think of them as your unique way to “treat” visitors, they can be annoying. In fact, they are serving no real purpose. There is a likelihood that the visitors may not “enter” your website after seeing this. Not only they are a waste of time, they may also be using bandwidth of your visitors (yes! this can be an issue). Give visitors the value of your site up front without the splash page.

Simple and clear navigation

Ever thought how you keep on surfing some good sites for hours? They have a simple and clear navigation.  You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a granny or a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdowns. If your visitors don’t know how to navigate, or find it annoying, they will leave your site.
